April 27, 2011-It's Royal week at Capital Lifestyle! Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally going to wed this Friday, and Kenyans will be watching! Here's a trip down memory lane of how Kenya has played momentous roles in the history of the British Royal Family.
Sarova Stanley has been welcoming the Royal family since 1902 on Victoria Street, now Tom Mboya Street, to it's current location on Moi Avenue in 1905 after the great fire. In 1928 the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Gloucester had a weeklong celebration in Nairobi; and who can forget the arrival of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1952. It was also on that 1952 trip to Kenya that Princess Elizabeth learned of the death of her father, George VI, and was where she acceded to the throne of the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth's coronation was later celebrated by the"Coronation Rally", a road race through the Kenyan bush, which is now known as the popular annual event"Safari Rally". Kenya has definitely been a part of Royal heritage and has already continued that tradition with the new generation of Royals. Kenya will always be known as one of Prince William's favourite vacationing spots, and of course where the future King and Queen were engaged.
